The Paraplanners

Alyson Brooker joins The Paraplanners Fri 25 Nov 2016

I’m really pleased to announce that Alyson Brooker has recently joined the team at The Paraplanners.

Alyson has worked in paraplanning for more than five years since joining Scottish financial advice practice Thomson Shepherd – now Carbon Financial Partners – as a graduate trainee in 2010.

A graduate in Law from the University of Edinburgh, Alyson had originally planned to embark on a career practicing law but, despite achieving a Diploma in Legal Practice, she soon caught the paraplanning bug.

Alyson says: “I’d moved back home following university and saw an advert for the graduate trainee role at Thomson Shepherd. I was lucky enough to get the role and worked my way up from being a client services administrator to a paraplanner – achieving the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning on the way.”

But why The Paraplanners and why now? Alyson explains: “I needed to relocate to the Borders of Scotland with my husband but – to strike the kind of work/life balance I was looking for – I wanted the ability to work from home while continuing to challenge myself professionally.”

“Being part of an outsourced practice was the ideal route and – if you want to go outsourced – you have to go with the best.”

Alyson continues: “I’d been aware of The Paraplanners in the industry press – and through Twitter – and was aware of the practice’s commitment to paraplanning as a profession. I like the way The Paraplanners’ team talked about paraplanning as a technically skilled profession and the fact that they expressed opinions on financial planning issues.”

“I got in touch with Richard and Kim – and here I am!”

Alyson has already begun working with a range of clients since joining the team on 24 October. We hope our clients enjoy working with Alyson as much as me – and the rest of The Paraplanners – already are!
