And the winner is...
The IFP’s Paraplanner Conference kicks off at Chesworth Grange in Kenilworth, near Warwick, tomorrow.
And regular readers of our blog will remember that we invited entries from students, currently studying in UK universities and higher education colleges, to enter a competition to be our guest at the event.
All entrants had to do was respond to the following question: ‘If I was granted three wishes to kick-start my career in the financial planning profession, I’d wish for…’.
We’re really pleased to announce that David Smith (pictured), who’s studying for an associate’s degree in Finance and Financial Management services at the University of South Wales, will be The Paraplanners’ guest at this week’s conference.
Here’s what David – who, while studying for his degree, has been working part-time with Penguin Wealth Management in Cardiff following a successful spell as an intern – suggested for his three wishes:
1. A role working for a reputable and leading independent financial advisers firm.
I am fortunate enough that this has become a reality in the past few months. After a successful university work experience at Penguin Wealth Management, I was given a part-time position and continue to work for them. The experience has been highly rewarding. It has given me a wide understanding of all aspects of a financial planning business. It has greatly increased my passion and ambition to become a qualified adviser.
2. To gain the full diploma in regulated financial planning before I graduate.
I am currently studying finance at the University of South Wales. This summer, I am planning to take the R01 exam as part of my target to qualify as an independent financial adviser as quickly as I am able.
3. My final wish is to be chosen to attend this event!
I would relish the chance to spend time with a range of professionals within the financial services industry as I think the experience would be very beneficial towards my studies – both university and professional exams. I see it as an ideal opportunity to broaden both my understanding and experience of the Industry.
Many congratulations to David. We look forward to meeting up with you at Chesworth Grange tomorrow!
